Lauren Cioffi graduated from Stony Brook University in 2011 with a B.A. in Journalism and a concentration in Broadcast. Two weeks after graduation, Lauren was hired to be a Broadcast Associate for CBS Newspath, the affiliate distribution service of the Network. She takes pride in the fact that every day of work is different and more exciting than the last. When she is covering the national news of the day, Lauren is responsible for editing feeds from the most newsworthy events across the country.
On September 11, 2011, she was solely responsible for editing the Memorial Service in New York and distributing her edited footage to the nearly 200 CBS affiliates and 16 owned and operated stations countrywide.
When she is covering international news, she monitors services such as Reuters, Eurovision and European News Exchange for newsworthy video. And Lauren finds joy in tracking down those “good stories.”
In her five months working at Newspath, Lauren has edited video from the courtroom of the Dr. Conrad Murray trial in Los Angeles, the exotic animal hunt in Ohio, the Daily White House Press Briefings in Washington, D.C, the violence in Libya, as well as the death of Muammar Qaddafi. Occasionally she is asked to go out into the field with a Photographer and work as a reporter, interviewing sources for national Newspath packages.
Her favorite job is working the desk, where Lauren determines what video is shown on the CBS “Live Channel,” which is provided via satellite across the country. Using The Essential News Production System (ENPS) and the Newsroom Information Model (NIM), Lauren searches the wires for the news that matters.
Her senior year at school, Lauren focused entirely on her academics, striving to produce and edit the best broadcast packages and video essays for her professors who all worked or are still working in the news business.
In a span of 37 days, she graduated, got married and found a job. She says it is because she does “big things,” and, usually, she does them “all at once.” Lauren lives in Selden with her husband Matt and her dog Zoe. She has never been happier.
